Italian Film Even Honored for Powerful Debut

John MacLean’s Tornado (UK) wins Best Feature Film at the 23rd Ischia Global Film & Music Festival, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The action drama starring Tim Roth and Jack Lowden, according to the jury, "blends vengeance and samurai themes in the cinematic return of an undisputed European film talent."

Special mention for Best Debut Feature goes to Even by Giulio Ancora (Italy), a story about a teenage girl living with carefree rebellion until a traumatic event upends her life.

"A debut that brings us back to the harsh reality of gender-based violence against women."

Best Documentary is Oroboro by Pablo Lobato (Brazil), praised for its "sensitive and poetic narrative about the power of art in education. It captures the intimacy of discovery, pain, and joy in youth, as well as the strong contrasts between rural life and urbanization in Brazil."

Best Short Film (tie) is awarded to:

Aria by Federica Belletti (USA/Italy), a story of a young woman dealing with anguish, pain, and loneliness after a sexual encounter, starring Pauline Chalamet.

Fellini by Hleb Papou (Italy), described as a "portrait of expressive strength about two young men growing up on the outskirts of Milan."

The festival, produced by Pascal Vicedomini and organized by the Ischia International Arts Academy, is supported by Italy’s DG Cinema and Audiovisual (MiC), the Campania Region, and sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, ENIT, Givova, Rainbow, and Caremar.
