Sesame Street Icon Elmo Targeted in Hate-Fueled Hack
Hackers took over the X (formerly Twitter) account of Elmo from the Muppets over the weekend, using it to post racist and antisemitic threats, as well as blasphemous references to Jeffrey Epstein, CE Report quotes ANSA.
Sesame Workshop, the non-profit organization behind Sesame Street and Elmo, worked throughout the day to regain full control of the iconic red puppet's account, which has become a platform for mental health awareness and has 650,000 followers.
This was reported by international media.
"Elmo’s X account was compromised by an unknown hacker who posted disgusting messages, including antisemitic and racist posts. We are working to restore full control of the account," said a Sesame Workshop spokesperson.
Instead of the usual messages of encouragement and kindness, Elmo’s followers were met with antisemitic threats, racist messages, and a blasphemous reference to the Epstein case.
The hacked tweets were quickly deleted, although Elmo’s account still contained a link to a Telegram channel of a user claiming responsibility for the attack.
