At an event hosted by the BTA Press Club in Ankara on Monday, Bulgarian Ambassador to Turkiye Angel Cholakov praised the growing appreciation for Bulgarian culture in Turkiye, CE Report quotes BTA

The event introduced BTA’s new correspondent in Ankara, Ayse Sali, and showcased an exhibition of posters from Bulgarian plays translated into Turkish by Professor Huseyin Mevsim. Cholakov highlighted theatre’s key role in cultural exchange and called Prof. Mevsim a “great ambassador” of Bulgarian cultural and intellectual influence.

The ambassador also noted the significance of the Bulgarian Language and Literature Department at Ankara University, which recently marked its 90th anniversary, and commended students involved in translating Bulgarian works, including the film Vasil.

Recalling his first meeting with Ayse Sali shortly after the 2023 earthquake, Cholakov wished her a successful tenure in Ankara. He also reflected on the symbolic timing of the event, coinciding with Bastille Day and the eve of Turkiye’s Democracy and National Unity Day, calling Bulgaria–Turkiye relations “an example for the region, Europe, and the world.”
