Iconic Whale Installation at Triennale Milano Set on Fire
“The Whale,” the installation by Jacopo Allegrucci created for the 24th International Exhibition at Triennale Milano, was set on fire this morning, CE Report quotes ANSA.
The giant blue papier-mâché whale had been made for the exhibition that began on May 13.
Firefighters responded to the scene, while State Police officers are reportedly tracking down the arsonist.
The installation is one of four endangered animal artworks featured in the Triennale and is part of Allegrucci’s project, “The Fragility of the Future.” Allegrucci is also a master float builder for the Viareggio Carnival.
Triennale Milano confirmed that the whale was deliberately set on fire. Staff immediately contacted the fire department and are now awaiting investigations by the authorities.
