The Academy of Athens has elected renowned Greek poet Titos Patrikios as an honorary member during its plenary session on Thursday, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia

Born in 1928, Patrikios is considered a leading figure of Greece’s post-WWII literary generation. His work spans decades of national turmoil and transformation, from Nazi occupation to the recent pandemic.

A graduate of Athens Law School, Patrikios published his first poetry collection, The Dirt Road, in 1954. He later studied at the Sorbonne and worked with CNRS, UNESCO, and the UN. After returning to Greece in 1975, he resumed work as a lawyer while continuing his prolific literary career.

His poetry has been widely translated, and he has received multiple Greek and international honors, including awards from Italy and France. In 2019, he was decorated with Greece’s Order of Honor.

The Academy hailed Patrikios as “a wise humanist of contemporary Greek poetry,” praising his blend of political insight, personal reflection, and mastery of language.
