ROBERTO BENIGNI AND MICHELE BALLERIN, WITH STEFANO ANDREOLI — THE DREAM.

“Europe Has Awakened!” (Einaudi Stile Libero)

A powerful journey through the idea of Europe—not just as geography or an institution, but as a vision, a shared horizon, a common home, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The TV show Il Sogno (The Dream), which moved millions of viewers on Rai1, becomes a book in an expanded and enriched version. The Dream. Europe Has Awakened!, to be released by Einaudi Stile Libero on June 17, is written by Roberto Benigni together with writer and essayist Michela Ballerin and TV author Stefano Andreoli. This is not a simple transcript of the show, but a deeper narrative filled with new reflections, anecdotes, and poetic moments.

Benigni guides us with the clarity of argument and poetic depth through a passionate account of events and often-overlooked figures who dared to think differently and imagine a new world—from Giuseppe Garibaldi to the heroes of Ventotene, from Jean Monnet to Sofia Corradi, the mind behind the Erasmus project.

The written form allows the authors to offer a more historically detailed account, filling in gaps and honoring key Italian and European figures who shaped our continent’s history, while still preserving the spontaneity and emotional charge of the spoken word that made the show so popular.

The Dream is a call to awareness, an antidote to modern-day disillusionment with Europe. It is a message of hope and responsibility, lighting the way forward to face today’s challenges without fear—so that the dream may live on.
