Bulgarian Student Wins First Place in European Scientific Art Competition

Mariya Chukarska, a tenth-grade interior design student at the Elisaveta Vazova Vocational School of Design, has won first place in the 16-18 age category of the European scientific art project "Unfold Your World – Proteins," the Sofia City Regional Education Department announced, CE Report quotes BTA

The project, coordinated by the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany, aims to engage young people in exploring the intricate beauty and essential role of proteins in nature and the human body through artistic expression.

Chukarska's winning entry, titled "Conformation of a Protein Responsible for the Embryonic Development of the Human Eye," earned her an invitation to the award ceremony held at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, on December 10, 2024.

Over 150 students aged 14 to 18 from across Europe participated in the 2025 competition. Chukarska was the only Bulgarian recipient of the award, underscoring the value of initiatives that merge science and art to make complex scientific concepts more accessible and engaging.
