Alexander von Humboldt Foundation President Honored with Doctor Honoris Causa from Sofia University

On Friday, Prof. Robert Schlögl, President of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, was awarded the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa by Sofia University. The distinction was presented during a formal ceremony by the Vice-Rector of Sofia University, Prof. Tony Spasov, CE Report quotes BTA

The honorary title was conferred on Prof. Schlögl for his exceptional scientific contributions in heterogeneous catalysis and chemical energy conversion, as well as for the Foundation's role in supporting Bulgarian scientists and fostering collaboration between Sofia University and German research institutions.

The nomination for the award was initiated by the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy. Its Dean, Prof. Anela Ivanova, highlighted Prof. Schlögl's groundbreaking research on heterogeneous catalysts and nanoscale energy storage materials, as well as his work on sustainable energy systems and chemical energy conversion.

In her address, Prof. Ivanova emphasized the Foundation's significant impact on Bulgarian science, noting that over 400 Bulgarian scholars, many from Sofia University, have benefited from its programs.

The ceremony also featured traditional presentations in Latin and Old Bulgarian, underscoring the historical significance of the occasion.
