Greece’s Push to Repatriate Young Professionals

France Inter highlighted progress in Southern European economies, focusing on Greece's efforts to reverse brain drain. Journalist Béatrice Mathieu of L'EXPRESS praised Greek Labour Minister Niki Kerameus for actively promoting Greece across Europe to encourage the return of around 600,000 Greeks who left since 2010, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia

These emigrants, mostly young graduates like doctors, nurses, engineers, and IT specialists, left due to the severe 2013 economic crisis when unemployment peaked at 27.5%, and youth unemployment nearly hit 58%.

To attract them back, Kerameus offers a tax incentive: a 50% income tax cut for seven years for those abroad over five years. Mathieu emphasized that Greece is increasingly drawing attention thanks to these reforms and outreach efforts.
