Bulgaria will end its currency board on January 1, 2026, as it begins following the European Central Bank’s (ECB) monetary policy, Lyubomir Karimansky of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) announced on Sunday, CE Report quotes BTA

Speaking on Bulgarian National Television, Karimansky emphasized that Bulgaria will gain a voice in ECB decisions, allowing it to help shape eurozone monetary policy. He noted that the BNB governor will participate in ECB votes and defend national interests.

Karimansky assured that euro banknotes will be available and urged the public not to worry. However, he warned that the euro is a tool, not a cure-all, and stressed the importance of maintaining fiscal discipline.

He also questioned the feasibility of this year’s budget and criticized the EU’s increased military spending, warning that it diverts funds from key sectors like agriculture and doesn’t contribute to wealth creation.
