Greece Plans €1.5 Billion Economic Package
The Greek government is preparing a €1.5 billion economic package to be presented by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Thessaloniki International Fair in September, sources from the Economy and Finance Ministry told ANA-MPA.
Roughly €1 billion will come from higher-than-expected revenues and spending performance, while the remaining €500 million will be saved through the activation of the national escape clause for defence spending, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia
The measures will include tax relief for the middle class, support for vulnerable groups, and affordable housing initiatives. Economy Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis emphasized that the focus is on growth-oriented policies rather than one-off benefits, with particular attention on easing the tax burden on middle incomes.
Proposals under review include adjusted tax brackets, increased tax-free thresholds, tax relief for families with children, and incentives to bring unused housing back onto the market. A measure to reduce the cost of servicing Swiss franc-denominated loans is also expected in September, in coordination with the Bank of Greece.
