Food Prices Remain Stable

Business

The market for basic food products remains balanced, said Vladimir Ivanov, Chairman of the Commodity Exchange and Wholesale Markets State Commission, during a briefing in Pleven. Since February, sugar prices have fallen by 5%, oil by 3%, and beans and cheese by 2%. Rice and flour are down 1%, while eggs saw a slight increase from BGN 0.33 to 0.34. Cheese is up by 4%, butter by 2%, and yoghurt by 5%. Fresh milk and pork prices are unchanged, and chicken is up 4%, CE Report quotes BTA

Ivanov noted that prices are driven by supply and demand, with no external factors at play. However, bad weather may slightly increase prices of fruits and vegetables. He also said that euro area membership would help Bulgaria integrate better in the common market and create more business opportunities.
