Moldovan Apples Make Debut in India

Business

Moldovan apples have officially entered the Indian market, marking a milestone for Moldova's agricultural sector. The first commercial shipment was made possible through efforts from local authorities, international partners, and the Moldova Fruct Association, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

Moldova’s Ambassador to India, Ana Taban, called the export an important achievement, emphasizing the strong ties between the two nations. The apples, mainly Moldovan Red Chief variety, undergo a detailed process before export, including washing, packaging, labeling, and palletizing.

Vasile Sarban, State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, highlighted the importance of expanding markets to reduce vulnerability to crises and ensure higher revenue for farmers. The Indian market, with its large population and demand for quality produce, represents a significant opportunity.

Iurie Fala, Executive Director of Moldova Fruct, stressed that India’s market offers long-term potential, especially with Moldova’s ability to deliver fresh apples after harvest.

In the 2023-2024 season, over 260 tons of apples were delivered to India, with continued efforts to ensure consistent quality for future exports. The official approval for apple exports came on February 21, 2025, following successful test shipments.
