Italy’s retail sales up, volume down

Business

Italian retail sales increased by 0.7% in value terms in 2024 with respect to the previous year but dropped by 0.4% in volume, Istat said, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The data suggests the cost-of-living crisis continued to have an impact last year, with Italian people paying more to get less.

The national statistics agency said the 2024 dynamics in retail sales were mainly determined by food sales.

Istat said that retail sales grew both in value (+0.6%) and volume (+0.8%) in December with respect to the previous month.

In year-on-year terms, December's sales were up by 0.6% in value and 0.1% in volume.
