The value of e-commerce in Romania has reached 3.4% of the country’s GDP in 2024, amounting to €11.7 billion, according to a report by the Romanian Association of Online Stores (ARMO) citing estimates from the European E-commerce 2024 report, CE Report quotes Agerpres

Romania ranks third in Central and Eastern Europe, following Poland and the Czech Republic. ARMO Executive Director Cristian Pelivan highlighted that Romania's upcoming accession to the Schengen Area in 2025 will further boost opportunities, improving cross-border deliveries and market access across Europe.

E-commerce plays a vital role in the economy, driving courier traffic, logistics, fulfillment, and online marketing. According to official statistics, 72.9% of Romanian internet users made online purchases in 2024, with significant growth in rural areas, where online buyers increased to 67.3%.

Popular product categories include clothing and accessories (78.6%), restaurant deliveries (36.4%), cosmetics (34.5%), and household appliances (15.8%).

Founded in 2010, ARMO advocates for the e-commerce sector and promotes best practices through its certification program for Romanian online stores.
