Protest in Ruse Against Judicial Abuse

Bulgaria

A protest titled “Against the Truncheons of Power, Political Repression, and Creeping Dictatorship” took place Wednesday outside the Palace of Justice in Ruse. Demonstrators voiced support for Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev and gathered signatures defending the rule of law in Bulgaria, CE Report quotes BTA

Organized by Daniela Petrova, the protest drew participants from across the political spectrum, including Continue the Change–Democratic Bulgaria, Velichie, and MECh. Protesters carried signs reading “Justice, not orders” and “Mafia out.”

Petrova emphasized the nonpartisan nature of the protest, denouncing the misuse of legal institutions for political purposes. Local party leader Orlin Penkov condemned what he called “selective justice,” noting recent prosecutions of mayors while figures from GERB and MRF remain untouched.

“This is about defending democracy,” Penkov said.
