Bulgaria Moves Closer to Euro Adoption

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov welcomed positive assessments from the European Commission and the European Central Bank, which confirmed Bulgaria’s progress toward joining the eurozone. “This is the result of years of reforms, commitment and coordination with our European partners,” he wrote on social media, calling it “a remarkable day.”

The European Commission announced that Bulgaria is ready to adopt the euro on January 1, 2026. The ECB echoed this assessment, supporting Bulgaria’s preparedness, CE Report quotes BTA

On the same day, the Bulgarian government approved the creation of a national coordination mechanism to oversee the transition process.
