Bulgaria Expects Green Light for Eurozone Entry
Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said he expects a positive convergence report from the European Commission on June 4, which could pave the way for Bulgaria’s eurozone accession, CE Report quotes BTA
Speaking in the village of Zagore, Zhelyazkov explained that a favorable decision would initiate a complex procedure involving the EU Council, European Council, and European Parliament to end Bulgaria’s status as an EU member with a derogation.
"This multi-stakeholder process must conclude with positive monitoring results on inflation, the deficit, and other key indicators—we believe we meet them," the Prime Minister stated. He expressed confidence that no unforeseen obstacles would prevent the adoption of the euro by January 1, 2026.
Zhelyazkov also noted that preparations are ongoing, including public awareness campaigns, coordination with retailers, and market readiness. He assured that mechanisms are being developed to protect consumers and safeguard savings during the transition, including revisions to the euro adoption law.
