Bulgaria

Over 2,200 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) centers have been established in Bulgarian schools under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), according to Education Minister Krasimir Valchev. He made the announcement at the opening of a new STEM center at the Professional Natural and Mathematical High School in Vratsa, CE Report quotes BTA

Valchev recalled that in 2019, Bulgaria initiated a program to create modern STEM environments, starting with 250 centers. Following this success, over 2,000 additional STEM centers were planned and funded through the RRP.

The new center in Vratsa, with an investment of nearly BGN 350,000 from the EU, features five classrooms and two offices equipped with advanced technology. The aim is to boost student engagement, particularly in programming and mathematical sciences.

The school director, Tanya Vasileva, highlighted the transformation of the third floor into a vibrant learning space, replacing what was previously a deteriorating area. The renovation also included improvements to the school’s library.

The event was attended by local officials, including Vratsa Mayor Kalin Kamenov and Regional Governor Nikolay Rumenov.
