The meeting followed Radev’s official visit to Vietnam in November 2024 and coincided with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Vietnam in 2025. The President noted the warm reception he received in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and emphasized the productive discussions held at the highest state level. Several agreements were signed to advance pragmatic and effective cooperation.
Ambassador Do Hoang Long praised Radev’s dedication to strengthening relations and reiterated the Vietnamese community’s commitment to contributing further. Discussions covered potential cooperation in culture, education, trade, business, consular services, and logistics, with follow-up meetings planned with Bulgarian institutions.
Diplomatic ties between the two countries were established in 1950 and upgraded to embassy status in 1956. Under a 1980 agreement, 35,000 Vietnamese citizens worked in Bulgaria over a decade, and 5,000 pursued higher education there. Many of these graduates have since taken key roles in Vietnam’s business and state administration, serving as a strong foundation for continued collaboration. Today, approximately 1,200 Vietnamese citizens live and work in Bulgaria.
