Joint Governance Council Meets to Discuss 2025 Budget Amid Disputes

Bulgaria

The Joint Governance Council is set to meet on Tuesday to finalize the 2025 budget, CE Report quotes BTA

Ahead of the meeting, Stanislav Balabanov of There Is Such a People stated that they have a general understanding of the budget figures and will refine them during discussions. He also criticized Continue the Change co-leader and former Finance Minister Assen Vassilev, accusing him of creating a "huge gap in the budget" and "ruining the state" with past financial policies.

A heated debate continues between Continue the Change and the ruling parties over the alleged BGN 18 billion deficit. The government argues that this gap is a major obstacle to Bulgaria's progress toward joining the eurozone.

Balabanov suggested that 2025 might be a transitional year, emphasizing the need for financial caution before considering eurozone entry.
