Wilson: U.S. Must Boost Ukraine’s Defense After Russian Assault
Republican Congressman Joe Wilson, responding to Russia's large-scale attack, has called for the transfer of air defense systems and other weaponry to Ukraine.
He made the statement on еру social media platform X, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.
"As Americans begin to enjoy the sounds of fireworks in celebration of our Nation's Independence, war criminal Putin, who is losing his pathetic war, resorts to scorched earth tactics across Ukrainian cities that predate Moscow's existence," Wilson wrote.
The congressman expressed confidence that with rapid stock assessment, the Department of Defense would advance President Donald Trump's objectives stated at The Hague to send additional air defense and approved weapons "to help stop this absolute depravity, as allies have and must continue doing at a rapid pace."
"Armed with cheap Iranian and North Korean weapons, Putin delights in fire bombing sleeping families and will continue his imperialist perversions until he is stopped," Wilson added.
Ukraine's air defense forces neutralized 478 Russian missiles and drones on the night of July 3-4, including two Iskander-K cruise missiles. The main target of the attack was Kyiv, where 23 people were injured, 14 of whom were hospitalized.
Earlier, U.S. media reports said that the Pentagon had paused the delivery of ammunition and missiles to Ukraine. White House spokesperson Anna Kelly confirmed the move, saying the decision was made "to put America's interests first following a DOD review of our nation's military support and assistance to other countries across the globe."
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine and the U.S. were working at the operational level to clarify all details regarding the delivery of defense support, particularly air defense components.
On Thursday, July 3, Trump stated that while the United States continues to support Ukraine, it must also ensure its own defense needs are met.
