The Žnjan Plateau, a €45 million project of redeveloping the beach area in Split, was officially opened, providing the biggest Croatian Adriatic city with a new public space for citizens to gather and for recreational, sporting, and cultural events to take place right by the sea.

This ambitious architectural transformation of the previously neglected Žnjan beach is expected to become a tourist attraction in its own right, CE Report quotes HINA.

"This newly redeveloped area of Žnjan brings great value to Split," said Split Mayor Tomislav Šuta during the opening ceremony of the revitalised Žnjan Plateau. He emphasised that the opening of this transformed space marked a historic day for the city and its residents.

The mayor expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the development and realisation of the project, particularly acknowledging former mayors Andro Krstulović Opara (HDZ) and Ivica Puljak (Centre party).

"Krstulović Opara made key decisions and carried out the preparations for the Žnjan redevelopment, while Puljak completed the construction of the Žnjan Plateau during his term," Šuta said.

Tourism and Sport Minister Tonči Glavina, attending the event as the envoy of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, highlighted that city administrations of differing political affiliations had taken part in both the planning and execution of the project.

"This redeveloped Žnjan Plateau will transform perceptions of Split and the impression it leaves," said Glavina. He added that Žnjan now represents a new face of Split, and noted that the revitalised plateau would become an important showcase in Croatia’s tourism offering.

The redeveloped Žnjan Plateau covers an area equivalent to 31 football pitches. According to organisers, around ten thousand people attended the opening ceremony, including many foreign visitors. Following the official programme, a cultural and entertainment event was held across several locations on the plateau, where attendees strolled through the spaces hosting a variety of artistic performances.
