Slovenia’s Celje unveils luxurious boutique hotel with historic charm
A new four-star boutique hotel named Hiša Barbara has opened in the heart of the old town of Celje (Slovenia), a development that aligns with the national strategy of sustainable high-end tourism.
The hotel, located next to the city's historic water tower, has been described by Celje Mayor Matija Kovač as a significant addition to the city centre, CE Report quotes The Slovenia Times.
While the main investor in the €1 million development is local company Cona plus, the municipality contributed a small share of the funds as well.
The project involved replacing a 19th-century building that could not be preserved with a new structure that fully replicates its historic appearance.
Featuring six double rooms and one apartment, the hotel is a step towards meeting local demand for high-quality, small-scale accommodation.
It is named after Barbara of Celje or Cilli, born in Celje around 1392 to become the holy Roman empress and queen of Hungary and Bohemia by marriage to Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund.
It also displays artwork by painter Rudi Španzel from his Counts of Celje collection dedicated to the most powerful and influential late medieval noble dynasty in the territory of present-day Slovenia.
