Napoli coach demands reality check after PSV humbling

“Napoli and Neapolitans must not be taken for fools (literally: must not be taken for a ride). Shameless situations are being created — we must stop throwing smoke in people’s eyes. I’ve been saying this in every possible way. Now I’m done talking.”

That was Antonio Conte’s blunt message during the press conference following Napoli’s 6–2 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The coach didn’t mince words, delivering a clear and harsh criticism of the current situation at the club.

“We need to rediscover the spirit from last season, the one that allowed us — with very few players — to do something extraordinary,” Conte began.

“We all went beyond our limits — myself included. It’s not easy, and honestly, it’s also a mistake to introduce nine new players all at once. But we had to do it. Bringing in nine new minds isn’t simple.”

Conte called for humility and hard work, warning that the current approach isn’t sustainable.

“We need to take a reality check — I’ve been saying this for a while now. In Naples, some people are trying to cover things up, but this is a city where you always have to tell the truth.”

“Together with the club, we made and shared certain choices, and I repeat: this season is going to be extremely difficult. Tonight’s match needs to be a wake-up call. The new players need to settle in quickly, and we all need to work — all of us.”
