FIFA opens resale platform for 2026 World Cup
More than one million tickets have already been sold for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the organization said in its first update on ticket sales since the official launch earlier this month, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
As expected, the highest demand came from buyers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico—the three host countries of the tournament.
FIFA said that people from 212 different countries and territories have purchased tickets so far, even though only 28 of the 48 spots in the tournament have been filled, according to KosovaPress.
Summarizing the top 10 countries by number of tickets sold, FIFA listed: the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, Spain, Colombia, Argentina, and France, in that order.
The tournament will be held from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
FIFA also announced that its resale platform is now open, and tickets for the World Cup final in East Rutherford, New Jersey, were available with prices ranging from $9,538 to $57,500.
However, FIFA did not disclose specific figures for how many tickets have been sold for individual matches.
Likewise, no standard price list was published this time, unlike in previous tournaments.
In the first ticket sales phase, buyers were selected from a pool of 4.5 million applicants through a lottery held last month.
FIFA stated that the next registration period for the ticket draw will open on October 27.
During this phase, tickets for individual matches, as well as venue-specific and team-specific ticket packages for all 104 matches, will be available.
According to the current data, Category 4 tickets (the lowest priced) starting at $60 were available for at least 40 matches.
For the USA’s opening match in Inglewood, California, ticket prices ranged from $560 to $2,735.
On the resale site, at least one ticket for that same match, scheduled for June 12, was listed at $61,642 on Thursday.
Fans could choose seating from four categories:
Category 1 – the best seats according to FIFA
Category 4 – upper-level seats in the stadiums
Ticket prices are expected to fluctuate, as this World Cup is using dynamic pricing for the first time.
Winners of the second ticket lottery phase will be able to purchase tickets from mid-November to early December.
A third phase, called the Random Selection Draw, will begin after the final team draw on December 5, which will determine the full tournament schedule.
FIFA also noted that more tickets will be released closer to the tournament under a "first come, first served" system.
