Majority of Serbian women and girls blame themselves for digital abuse
In Serbia, 84 percent of women and girls believe they are themselves responsible for the digital violence they have experienced.
This is according to a presentation of the survey "Digital Violence Against Women and Girls in Serbia," conducted by the "Atina" association, CE Report quotes MIA.
Fifty-four percent of respondents believe that the perpetrators are not aware of the consequences and think that their actions are harmless and transient.
"Respondents under the age of 30, in as many as 43 percent of cases, stated that they had experienced digital violence," the research by the "Atina" association, which was presented in Belgrade, indicates.
According to the survey, one-quarter of the respondents stated that they had personally experienced digital violence, while the most common forms of violence they experienced were receiving unwanted messages and content via social networks.
"Almost half of the women and girls on the planet, up to 1.8 billion of them, have no legal protection from digital violence. Cyber-stalking, gender-based violence, and AI-generated deepfake messages are spreading at an accelerating rate, increasing the risks faced by women and girls online," the association states.
