Romania's Anthem a Symbol of Unity and Resolve

On Romania's National Anthem Day, President Nicușor Dan emphasized the country’s critical role on NATO’s Eastern Flank and its strong contribution to European and Euro-Atlantic security, CE Report quotes AGERPRES

“We live in troubled times, with conflict and instability, including a brutal war on our border,” the president stated, highlighting how the anthem’s line "Now or never" has gained renewed meaning as a call to solidarity, action, and national responsibility.

Dan stressed the importance of unity, dignity, and freedom as core values on which modern Romania was built. “‘Awaken Thee, Romanian!’ is more than a song—it is the voice of a nation that stood together during the hardest moments of its history,” he said.

He described the anthem as one of Romania’s most powerful national symbols, closely linked with key moments in the country’s development, including its role in the 1848 revolution and the 1989 fall of communism. “It became a symbol of freedom and courage,” he added.

Dan concluded by honoring the sacrifices of those who fought for Romania’s sovereignty and independence, saying their legacy endures through the democratic values the anthem represents today.
