Romania

At the 12th edition of the BVB Awards 2025, Radu Hanga, President of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), highlighted a key achievement of 2024: the opening of 226,000 accounts, with a steady growth rate of 10,000 - 15,000 accounts per quarter. He emphasized the importance of increasing the number of investors to enhance market visibility and support listed companies, CE Report quotes Agerpres

By the end of 2024, the Stock Exchange's market capitalization reached 363 billion lei, with 260 billion lei attributed to local companies. The year saw five new company listings and 42 bond issuances, with state-owned companies making up over 40% of the total market capitalization. The BET index rose by 8.8%, while the BET-TR index increased by 16.1%.

Hanga also highlighted a record amount financed through the stock exchange by the Ministry of Finance and the introduction of a new corporate governance code aimed at aligning with global best practices while ensuring transparency for investors.

Reflecting on the growth of the exchange since its inception in 1995 with just nine listed companies, Hanga noted that BVB now hosts 400 companies. However, he pointed out the slow implementation of the Central Counterparty project as an area needing improvement.
