Canada lights up in solidarity with Ukraine

The Peace Tower of Canada’s Parliament in Ottawa and the Office of the Prime Minister were illuminated in Ukraine’s national colours as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine.

The Embassy of Ukraine in Canada published photos of the illumination on its Facebook page, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.

“On the eve of the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale military invasion, Canada’s Parliament and the Office of the Prime Minister are illuminated in the national colours of Ukraine – not merely as a symbol, but as a clear expression of unwavering support,” the post reads.

The Embassy added that from the very first days of the Russian invasion, Canada “has been a true friend and a reliable partner.”

“Canadians from coast to coast to coast have demonstrated remarkable solidarity – through humanitarian support, military assistance, welcoming displaced Ukrainians, and through the unwavering voice of the Canadian civil society,” the statement said.

It is worth noting that, under long-standing practice, lighting the Canadian Parliament building is not normally used to commemorate events. However, exceptions have been made for Ukraine on several occasions.

As previously reported, rallies in support of Ukraine were held across Canada on Sunday.
