The statue of Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein that appeared yesterday on the National Mall in Washington has been removed, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The statue, titled Best Friends Forever, had a permit from the National Park Service to remain in front of the Capitol building until 8 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Washington Post. However, it was taken down before dawn today because it "did not comply with the permit."

The sculpture depicted Trump and the financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein—who died by suicide in jail—holding hands. The plaque at the base read: "We celebrate the enduring bond between Donald Trump and his 'best friend' Jeffrey Epstein."

According to the Washington Post, the permit application stated that the work aimed to "demonstrate freedom of speech and artistic expression using political imagery."

The creators remain mysterious. It is speculated they are the same artists who installed a 2.4-meter statue of a golden thumb crushing the iconic green crown of the Statue of Liberty at the same spot in June. These artists also created a sculpture shaped like feces placed on a giant replica of Nancy Pelosi’s desk last year to protest the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot.
