Politics

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday inaugurated a new 65-kilometre section of the Patras–Pyrgos motorway near Alpochori, calling it a long-awaited project that corrects a historic injustice for Western Greece and the southern Ionian islands, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia

Mitsotakis praised the work of 6,000 individuals involved in the construction, noting it as proof of Greece’s capability to deliver complex infrastructure projects. “This is just one of many to come,” he said.

The newly opened stretch, from Kaminia in Achaia to Pyrgos in Ilia, will reduce travel time from Patras to Pyrgos to just 45 minutes, and from Athens to Pyrgos to 2 hours and 45 minutes.

The road will open to traffic at noon on Friday, August 1, while the remaining 10 kilometres, connecting Kaminia to Mintilogli in Patras, are expected to be completed by the end of November.
