Parliament Rejects Minister Probes
The Hellenic Parliament on Thursday rejected proposals to investigate former ministers Makis Voridis and Lefteris Avgenakis over the OPEKEPE illegal subsidies scandal. The motions, submitted by opposition parties PASOK, SYRIZA, and New Left, failed to secure the required 151 votes, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia
Both ex-ministers had served in the rural development and food portfolio. The proposals were based on a case file submitted by the European Public Prosecutor's Office.
Only 83 MPs from the ruling New Democracy party and a few independents voted, while opposition lawmakers walked out, claiming the vote lacked quorum.
All motions received minimal support, with just 3 to 5 votes in favor and over 76 against. As a result, all were rejected.
