Parliament Debates Probe Into OPEKEPE Scandal
Greece’s Parliament on Wednesday began debating two proposals—by PASOK-KINAL and SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance—to set up a Parliamentary Preliminary Investigation Committee to examine possible criminal liability of former ministers Makis Voridis and Lefteris Avgenakis over the OPEKEPE subsidy scandal, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia
PASOK's motion, backed by opposition leader Nikos Androulakis, 32 PASOK MPs, and two independents, calls for a probe into alleged repeated complicity in breach of trust by the former rural development ministers, causing damage over €120,000. It also accuses Avgenakis of pressuring for the release of suspicious VAT numbers and unlawful disbursements.
A similar proposal by SYRIZA and the New Left alleges both former ministers were involved in felony-level breach of trust against EU financial interests, tied to illegal subsidies issued by OPEKEPE.
