Speaking to OPEN TV, the minister described the weather conditions as extremely challenging and emphasized that the state mechanism is fully mobilized. He urged citizens to act responsibly and remain vigilant, stressing that “seven out of ten wildfires are caused by human negligence.”

“This is a matter of national importance,” Kefalogiannis noted. “If we can prevent even half of those fires, we will be protecting lives, property, and the environment. It’s not about blame—it’s about collective responsibility.”

He called on the public to intervene when they see reckless behavior, warning that prevention is the key to avoiding disaster.
