
Greece Unveils Marine Parks, Seeks EU Funds
Greece has unveiled two major marine national parks in the Ionian Sea and the Southern Cyclades, fulfilling a pledge made at the UN Ocean Conference. Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said these parks will be among the largest in the Mediterranean and will help meet the goal of protecting 30% of Greek waters by 2030, ahead of schedule, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia
Meanwhile, Alternate Finance Minister Nikos Papathanasis has submitted Greece’s sixth request to the European Commission for €2.1 billion in grants from the Recovery and Resilience Facility, after meeting 39 new reform milestones. This brings total disbursements to €23.4 billion—65% of Greece’s allocated share.
Marinakis also reported that authorities seized a record quantity of cocaine in Mykonos and dismantled a trafficking network that included serving police officers.
