The Greek government is preparing legislation to eliminate and cap various ATM transaction fees, National Economy and Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis announced Monday, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia

The amendment, to be added to the draft bill on the National Customs Code, will legally establish free ATM transactions between banks, abolish fees for balance checks, and cap other charges at €1.50. It will also ensure third-party ATM providers follow the same rules as banks, offering zero fees in many cases.

Pierrakakis said the move addresses unjustified charges imposed by third-party ATM operators and proves the government’s commitment to protecting consumers.
