Greek Parliament Debates Railway Safety Bill

The Greek Parliament began debate Thursday on a new bill aimed at upgrading railway safety, following its presentation by Infrastructure and Transport Minister Konstantinos Kyranakis, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia

The bill is structured around three key areas:

  • Modernization of rail infrastructure and tech-based monitoring,

  • Stricter staff training, evaluation, and alignment with EU safety standards,

  • A new business model for the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE), transforming it into an independent entity—Hellenic Railways SA—with expanded hiring powers, including from the private sector and abroad.
