Russia to Close Polish Consulate in Retaliation

Russia announced it will close the Polish consulate starting August 29, 2025, in response to Poland shutting down the Russian consulate in Krakow earlier this year. The Polish consulate closure followed accusations that Russian intelligence was involved in an arson attack in Warsaw, CE Report quotes PAP

Polish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pawel Wronski condemned Russia’s decision as calculated but unjustified, stressing that Poland does not engage in sabotage or cyberattacks against Russia. He also urged Polish citizens to reconsider travel plans to Russia.

This move continues a pattern of reciprocal consulate closures between the two countries amid rising diplomatic tensions over alleged sabotage activities.
