During her Senate confirmation hearing, Kimberly Guilfoyle, nominee for US ambassador to Greece, emphasized Greece’s growing strategic role as a pillar of stability in NATO and a vital energy hub in the Eastern Mediterranean, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia

Guilfoyle pledged to strengthen US-Greece defense ties, highlighting Greece’s high defense spending, investments in American military technology, and commitment to NATO’s eastern flank. She pointed to joint defense projects, including F-35s and naval frigates, as proof of deepening bilateral cooperation.

On energy, she praised Greece’s transformation into a key hub through infrastructure like the Revythoussa LNG terminal and Alexandroupolis FSRU, with U.S. gas now comprising 20% of Greek imports. She promised to support regional projects linking Greece’s grid with neighbors such as Israel, Cyprus, and Egypt.

Guilfoyle also committed to enhancing economic ties, expanding trade and investment in sectors like defense, tech, AI, and agriculture, while encouraging Greek investments in the U.S.

In response to Senate questions, she reaffirmed her focus on supporting allies Greece, Cyprus, and Israel, and maintained a firm stance on Türkiye’s F-35 exclusion, citing its S-400 deal with Russia. She underscored Greece’s consistent support for U.S. interests, calling it a steadfast and reliable ally.
