Moldova Strengthens Ties with Italy

President Maia Sandu met with Italian President Sergio Mattarella, praising him as a strong supporter of Moldova and its European path. She thanked Italy for its continued assistance, noting that since 2021, Italy has allocated €90 million to support Moldova’s development—including help during the energy crisis and installation of smart meters, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

Sandu highlighted two key developments for Moldovans in Italy: the promulgation of the Social Protection Agreement, which ensures Moldovans will receive pensions for their work in Italy, and the updated Driver’s License Agreement, allowing for the recognition and exchange of all Moldovan licenses in Italy.

She emphasized the importance of the Moldovan diaspora in Italy, calling them a vital bridge between the two nations and proof of Moldova’s European identity.
