Trump: US to Hold Talks with Iran Soon
U.S. President Donald Trump announced Monday that the United States has scheduled talks with Iran, stating, “They’ve requested a meeting... and if we can put something down on paper, that will be fine.”
Speaking alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, Trump expressed optimism but added, “We’ll see what happens.” His Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, confirmed the talks would likely take place within the next week, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency
The announcement comes just weeks after the U.S. launched airstrikes on Iran’s Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities on June 22, following Israeli airstrikes on June 13. A U.S.-brokered ceasefire ended the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran on June 24.
Trump also signaled a willingness to ease sanctions on Iran “at the right time,” saying he hopes for a peaceful resolution. He emphasized that Iran appears “very different now” and expressed a desire to see the country rebuild.
On Syria, Trump confirmed that the U.S. lifted sanctions to give the country a chance, following appeals from other Middle Eastern nations.
