Greece Unemployment Hits 17-Year Low
Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis announced Thursday that Greece's unemployment rate dropped to 7.9% in May—the lowest since 2008—down from 10.5% a year ago and 8.3% in April, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia
He credited the drop to job creation driven by tax cuts, noting that 72 direct and indirect taxes had been reduced. This shift not only boosted employment and state revenues but also enabled permanent support measures for vulnerable citizens.
Marinakis also addressed ongoing wildfires across the country, praising the fire department’s "titanic efforts" to protect lives, property, and the environment.
