Greece to Recover Unjustified Farm Subsidies

Politics

Greek Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis announced Monday that the government will reclaim unjustified agricultural subsidies received by opportunists. Speaking on Parapolitika radio, he confirmed that legal proceedings are already underway and that laws may be tightened to prevent further abuse, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia

Hatzidakis emphasized the need to restore public trust following issues at the OPEKEPE payments authority, now being absorbed by AADE. He added that Greece will challenge EU-imposed fines related to administrative weaknesses at the European Court.

Addressing speculation about early elections, Hatzidakis ruled them out, citing a full four-year mandate and upcoming EU programs worth €8–10 billion. He also commented on regional tensions, saying Greece's foreign policy and defense steps—such as Chevron’s planned fossil fuel exploration south of Crete—are reinforcing national strength.
