Duda Defends NATO Unity

Politics

Polish President Andrzej Duda responded Wednesday to remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump about NATO’s Article 5, which mandates collective defense among allies. Trump had suggested there were "numerous definitions" of the article and said he would share his own interpretation at the NATO summit, CE Report quotes PAP

Duda dismissed the ambiguity, stating, “Article 5 is clear and explicit, and it means collective defence. There is no discussion around this article.” He emphasized that unity remains a core NATO principle.

Trump later softened his stance, affirming, “We're with them [allies] all the way.”

Duda also addressed a proposed increase in defense spending to 5% of GDP for NATO members, expected to be adopted during the summit. “Everything indicates that we will have unity,” he said.
