Duda Backs US Strikes on Iran
Polish President Andrzej Duda voiced strong support for recent US strikes on Iran, calling them “very determined” and “simply necessary,” particularly regarding the Fordo nuclear facility. Speaking in Podgorica alongside Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic, Duda emphasized the global risk posed by Iran's nuclear ambitions, CE Report quotes PAP
The US launched strikes on three uranium enrichment sites—Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan—using bunker-buster bombs, following a week of escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. The hostilities began with Israeli attacks on Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure on June 13, prompting Iran to retaliate with missile and drone strikes.
Duda said the US intervention confirmed international concerns, including those of the IAEA, about Iran’s nuclear intentions. He expressed hope that the strikes would push all parties toward negotiations and a peaceful resolution. He also noted that the EU response to the US actions was appropriate.
President Milatovic echoed hopes for diplomacy, reaffirming Montenegro’s alignment with EU policy on both the Middle East and Ukraine. Duda expects the conflict to be discussed further at the upcoming NATO summit in The Hague.
