UN Warns Amid Iran Strikes

Politics

The United Nations warned on Monday against further escalation in the Middle East amid reports that Iran launched strikes on a U.S. airbase in Qatar, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

“I haven’t seen the reports you mentioned. But any increase in military activity or retaliation only fuels destabilization,” said UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric. He echoed Secretary-General António Guterres’s concerns, warning the region is being dragged deeper into a “rathole of retaliation.”

When asked about UN staff in Qatar, Dujarric said there had been no reports of personnel being relocated.

Iranian media reported the strikes were part of a military campaign called Operation Bashayer Al-Fath ("Glad Tidings of Victory"), targeting U.S. bases in both Qatar and Iraq.
