Moldova Boosts Ties with Diaspora in Italy

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi, met with Moldovan citizens in Calabria and Sicily during a visit aimed at deepening connections with the diaspora, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Moldovans abroad and discussed key developments, including the upcoming implementation of the Social Security Agreement with Italy. This agreement, recently approved by the Italian Parliament, will allow Moldovan workers to access pensions and other benefits.

Popșoi also announced progress on a new deal to ease the conversion of Moldovan driver’s licenses in Italy.

He thanked the diaspora for their active role in past elections and encouraged participation in the upcoming September 2025 vote, calling it vital for Moldova’s European path. During the visit, he also met with Reggio Calabria’s mayor, expressing appreciation for the local support of the Moldovan community.
