Moldova Approves Budget Aid for Pupils

Politics

Moldova’s Parliament has approved in the first reading a series of amendments to the 2025 State Budget, with 57 MPs voting in favor. Among the key measures is a one-time financial aid of 1,000 lei for around 295,000 pupils in grades I–IX, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

The changes include an allocation of 300 million lei to the State Social Insurance Budget. Other notable allocations are:

  • 100 million lei for renovating and equipping school cafeterias

  • 50 million lei for Moldova’s Railway staff support

  • 50 million lei for the government’s emergency fund

  • Additional funds for public sector salaries and external projects

Budget revenues will rise by 647.7 million lei, driven by increased VAT, public sector collections, and external grants, without affecting the overall deficit.

Amendments to the laws on social insurance and health insurance were also approved in the first reading to fund pension indexation, new social payments, and compensation for medicines and medical devices.

The final vote will be held in a second reading.
