Mitsotakis Rejects Tempi Accusations as "Disgraceful"
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis strongly condemned opposition parties in Parliament on Wednesday for what he described as a "vile" attempt to politicize the Tempi train tragedy. Speaking during a debate on forming a special committee to investigate the incident, he rejected accusations of high treason and other claims made by smaller opposition groups, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia
“I will not legitimise absurd fabrications or become complicit in degrading political discourse,” Mitsotakis said. He accused opposition MPs — including Zoi Konstantopoulou, Kyriakos Velopoulos, Stefanos Kasselakis, and Dimitris Natsios — of forming a “coalition of toxicity” to exploit national grief for political gain.
The PM defended his government's response and reiterated that only the judiciary can deliver justice in the case. He dismissed the opposition’s claims as conspiracy theories that have since unraveled, calling them a “boomerang” that would ultimately harm their credibility.
Mitsotakis also urged Parliament to maintain focus on broader national challenges, citing regional instability following the Israel-Iran conflict. He concluded by emphasizing his government's commitment to stability, progress, and truth in contrast to what he described as the opposition's "yes to misery and stagnation."
